Fatherhood: A blueprint for leadership

There's a particular kind of orbit that forms around a great father.

It’s not the “fix-the-sink” stereotype or the “grill-master” meme (though, pass the tongs — it’s BBQ season!). It’s the steady gravitas of someone who shows up. Every. Single. Day. A father who shows patience at 6 a.m. hockey practice, support during a grade-three science project, or humility after getting directions wrong on the family road trip. Tiny moments, big impressions. That’s dad energy.

The role-model is for everyone

Here’s the kicker: that blueprint isn’t exclusive to people with “Dad” on their coffee mugs or those who supply the endless stream of eye-rolling jokes. It’s a pattern for leadership in its simplest form—quiet, consistent, accountable. Whether you’re a manager giving credit to others before taking it yourself, a designer pushing pixels for inclusivity, or a politician valuing listening over talking, you’re embodying dad energy.

Father’s Day can inspire all of us

Father’s Day is that friendly tap on the shoulder saying, “Hey—copy the good bits.” Dad or not, we can all borrow the best moves: steady guidance, easy generosity, and the kind of quiet integrity that doesn’t demand a spotlight.

Want a society that feels safer? Lead like a caring dad.

Want teams that trust each other? Mentor like a patient dad.

Want design that resonates? Empathize like a curious dad.

Passing the torch, daily

As Chief Creative Officer, my job is basically “professional dad energy” on turbo-boost. I’m there to celebrate bold ideas but also to ensure that the details—brand guidelines, pixel-perfect files, and campaign deadlines—are treated with as much importance as completing the job itself. I support the team through challenging client encounters, cheer their breakthrough victories, and quietly absorb the blame when projects take a misstep, because that’s what sturdy leadership—and good parenting—looks like. My mission is to show up with patience, curiosity, and a backbone people can lean on—then challenge everyone to do the same, on every project, every day.

If we each carry a sliver of dad-ness into Monday client calls, Tuesday production meetings, and Wednesday design reviews—imagine the potential increase in our collective spirits. Our titles may differ, but the assignment remains the same: leave the room with positive energy, and teach someone else how to do the same. This is how we create a more positive and hopeful future.

Here’s to the dads already setting the standard—and to each of you, eager to write your own playbook and make a difference. Your potential to embody fatherhood-inspired leadership is recognized and valued.

Happy Father’s Day to all who celebrate.
